Many Shades of a Wedding

Ombre2

A new trend we saw quite a bit of at Bartlett Hills this past wedding season is what is known as a “Ombre Wedding”. Many brides were probably not even aware that they were having an ombre themed wedding. Ombre in French means shade. Designers are predicting that this trend will be very popular in 2013 as well.

Vintage Themed Wedding

Vintage Wedding Theme

Professional wedding photographers are often asked by their brides and grooms to replicate distinct themes and styles within their photography. From quirky and funny to dramatic and romantic, these styles are a reflection of you and your fiancée and become instant memories when they are in print and in your photo album. So why not use those styles from your photography and extend them into the wedding itself!

A Wedding with a classic vintage style is a wonderfully creative way to celebrate your wedding day and one that exudes all the elegance and grace of memories past.  Classic movies like Gone With The Wind and Casablanca represent some great visual styles you can use as inspiration when creating an atmosphere of your wedding. Use these iconic images and styles in your save the date photos or even the invitations you will send to all your guests. You can enhance the vintage theme for your invitations by using tea-stained paper and old lettering fonts and prints from the era. With a wax seal and an elegant print of your monogram, your invitations will scream of elegance and taste. Utilize these styles for your place cards as well as table numbers to keep a unified theme throughout your reception and definitely speak with an invitation specialist for different ideas if you can.

Accessories are also a great way to put a vintage spin on the wedding. Classic objects like hat pillboxes, birdcages, vintage furniture and Art Deco jewelry are great ways to add a sense of classic Hollywood glamour to your theme. Pillboxes work great as centerpiece risers or simply nostalgic pieces to be placed in key areas of the reception (i.e. near the guest book or gift table). Adorning lamps or centerpieces with pieces of classic jewelry exude elegance and grace and can give a little sparkle to the night.

Utilizing lace is also a wonderful way to enhance the evening’s atmosphere. Lace is incredibly vintage on its own and may look great draping curtains, chairs, or even on the guest tables themselves. Try to mimic the lace style on your dress when putting lace accents throughout the wedding and reception. Additional accents such as brooches and even old trunks can be utilized to stylistically capture that vintage theme you so adore. And don’t forget to include lots and lots of candles!!! This will enliven the reception with a cascading glow when the sun goes down and will envelope the atmosphere with soft muted colors.

You can even glam up your wedding transportation! Instead of a simple limousine transporting you on your wedding day, how about renting a classic Rolls-Royce to escort you about! There are indeed specialized transportation rental companies out there you can contact in lieu of the plain limousine. They will often times have different vintage cars from different eras in time available for rent. They make for a wonderful addition to vintage wedding day photographs and will absolutely enhance the look you are going for. If you are in the Chicago-land area, Classic Chassis out of Schaumburg has a great selection of vintage cars and will be happy to work with you on your wedding day.

At Bartlett Hills we always encourage our Brides and Grooms to be creative and use their imaginations when it comes to their wedding. We will always embrace your ideas and love to see outside decorations enhance any wedding day themes for the evening. We are certainly happy to discuss with you any theme or style variations to make your day as memorable as possible!
